چکیده

Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO,). fractionation technique was evaluated as an altemativeprocess for reducing the free-fatty-acid (FFA) content and minimizing the phytosterolloss of rice bran oil (REO) during the process. The effects of pressure (20.5 to 32.0 MPa) and temperature (45 to 80 DC) for isothermal operation of the column on the composition of the resultant fractions were exarnined.Low"pressureand high-temperature conditions were found to befavorablefor minimizing triglycerides (TG) and phytosterol losses duringtheFFA removal from crude RBO. Rice bran oil fractions with < 1% FFA, about 95% TG, and 0.35% free sterol with 1.8%. oryzanol content could be obtained utilizing the described SC-C0 2 fractionation technique.

Extraction and Enzymatic Modification of Functional Lipids from Soybean Oil Deodorizer Distillate

Crude vegetable oils contain triacylglycerols as major component and various minor components such as diacylglycerols, monoacylglycerols, free fatty acids, phospholipids, tocopherols, sterols, squalene, color pigments, waxes, aldehydes, ketones, triterpene alcohols and metals that may affect the quality of the final product. The minor components are removed partially or entirely by either physi...

Frying performance of processed rice bran oils

509 The rice bran oil (RBO) contains high levels of phytosterols, gammaoryzanol, tocotrienols as well as tocopherols and it extends the shelf-life of snack foods. The high oxidative stability of RBO makes it preferred oil for frying and baking applications. The saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids in RBO are in the ratio of approximately 1:2.2:1.5 and the major fatty acid ...

Analysis of Tocopherols and Phytosterols in Vegetable Oils by HPlC with Evaporative Light - Scattering Detection 1

Methods were developed for the separation, detection, and quantification of tocopherols and phytosterols by high-performance liquid chromatography with an evaporative light-scattering detector. Four tocopherolsa, fJ, y and o-and four phytosterols-campesterol, fJ-sitosterol, brassicasterol, and stigmasterol-were analyzed in soybean, sunflower, low-erucic acid rapeseed (LEAR) and com oils. The us...

The lipid fraction of the coffee bean

The lipid fraction of coffee is composed mainly of triacylglycerols, sterols and tocopherols, the typical components found in all common edible vegetable oils. Additionally, the so-called coffee oil contains diterpenes of the kaurene family in proportions of up to 20 % of the total lipids. Diterpenes are of interest because of their analytical and physiological effects. The composition of the m...

Chromatographic analysis of plant sterols in foods and vegetable oils.

This paper reviews recently published chromatographic methods for the analysis of plant sterols in various sample matrices with emphasis on vegetable oils. An overview of structural complexities and biological/nutritional aspects including hypocholesterolemic activities of phytosterols is provided in the Section 1. The principal themes of the review highlight the development and application of ...
